Total Joint Education Class

On behalf of Stanislaus Surgical Hospital, and our expert doctors, nurses and other professionals, we would like to welcome you – and thank you for choosing us for your total joint surgery. Our goal is to ensure the highest standards of medicine and a high-quality experience for you. We are committed to keeping you informed and helping you become an active partner in your healthcare. We will do everything we possibly can to make your stay with us as pleasant as possible.

Experience has shown that educating patients prior to surgery helps patients achieve positive outcomes. The more patients know about preparing for surgery, hospitalization and recovery, the more comfortable they are about undergoing the procedure and are better prepared to be active participants in the entire surgical process.

We have developed a Pre-Operative Total Joint Class led by our Nursing and Physical Therapy Department at no cost to you. We highly recommend that both you and your caregiver attend our class.

Class Goals

Our goal is to prepare you for your surgery and help you understand your role as an active participant in your recovery and rehabilitation.

• We will discuss your upcoming procedure, preparing for your surgery, including your pre-operative visit, surgical procedure and hospital stay.
• We will explain how to prevent post-operative complications.
• We will prepare you to take an active role in your discharge planning and postoperative rehabilitation.
• We will help decrease your fear and anxiety about total joint replacement surgery.
• We will familiarize you with postoperative exercises and demonstrate equipment used such as walkers, Continuous Passive Motion machines for knee joint recovery etc.
• A tour of the Nursing Unit

The class meets every Monday from 10 AM until 11 AM in the Stanislaus Surgical Hospital Conference Room. Please arrive a few minutes early and check in with one of our receptionists in the lobby.

Attention Medicare Patients:

Stanislaus Surgical Hospital is participating in a Medicare initiative called the Comprehensive Care for Joint Replacement (CJR) model. The CJR model aims to promote quality and financial accountability for care surrounding lower-extremity joint replacement (LEJR) procedures, commonly referred to as hip and knee replacements and/or other major leg procedures. Stanislaus Surgical Hosptial’s participation in the CJR model should not restrict your access to care for your medical condition or your freedom to choose your health care providers and services. All existing Medicare beneficiary protections continue to be available to you. These include the ability to report concerns of substandard care to Quality Improvement Organizations and 1-800-MEDICARE.

Stanislaus Surgical Hospital has entered into financial arrangements with collaborating health care providers and suppliers who are engaged in care redesign with the hospital and who may furnish health care services to you during your episode of care. Under these arrangements, Stanislaus Surgical Hospital may share payments received from Medicare as a result of reduced episode spending and hospital internal cost savings with collaborating providers and suppliers. Stanislaus Surgical Hospital may also share financial accountability for increased episode spending with collaborating providers and suppliers.
